Nominatiivpluraal

Nominatiivpluraal, or nominative plural, is the form of a noun used for plural referents in the nominative case within languages that mark nouns for case. It indicates both number (plural) and grammatical case and is typically used for the subject of a sentence and, in some languages, for predicate nouns after linking verbs.

In languages with explicit case endings, the nominative plural is usually expressed by a plural inflection on the noun, or by a combination of noun and determiner. The exact form varies between languages. Examples: In German, die Katzen schlafen. Here Katzen is the nominative plural of Katze; die is the definite article in nominative plural. In Finnish, kissat is the nominative plural of kissa. In Latin, puellae ambulant, where puellae is the nominative plural of puella.

In languages with case systems, the nominative plural contrasts with other plural cases such as accusative plural or genitive plural; the form changes accordingly. In languages with limited or no case marking, the nominative plural concept may be expressed primarily by word order or other markers rather than distinct noun endings.
