Nitrilobutadieno

Nitrilobutadieno, often abbreviated as NBR or nitrile rubber, is a synthetic rubber copolymer of acrylonitrile (ACN) and butadiene. The varying proportions of these monomers in the polymer chain determine the properties of the NBR, with higher acrylonitrile content generally leading to improved oil and fuel resistance but reduced flexibility at low temperatures. NBR is widely used in applications where resistance to oil, fuels, and certain chemicals is crucial.

Its excellent mechanical properties, including good tensile strength, abrasion resistance, and tear resistance, make it suitable for a range of demanding industrial uses. NBR is commonly found in seals, gaskets, hoses, O-rings, and diaphragms for automotive, aerospace, and industrial machinery. It is also utilized in the production of protective gloves, footwear, and adhesives. While NBR offers good resistance to petroleum-based oils and greases, it is generally not recommended for use with strong polar solvents, ketones, esters, or chlorinated hydrocarbons. Its processing typically involves standard rubber compounding and vulcanization techniques.
