Nitrene-transfer methods are used in late-stage functionalization, medicinal chemistry, and materials science, including surface modification and polymer functionalization. Catalytic systems based on rhodium, copper, iron, and other metals have expanded substrate scope and improved selectivity, with ongoing work aimed at achieving enantioselectivity and better control over singlet versus triplet reactivity.
