Niralamba
Niralamba is a Sanskrit term meaning “without support” (nir- = without, alamba = support). It appears in Hindu philosophical and yogic literature to denote both a physical and a metaphysical condition. In its literal usage, niralamba refers to actions performed without external props or aids, such as postures, balances, or practices carried out without the aid of walls, ropes, or other supports. In a more figurative sense, it is used to describe independence or self-sufficiency of consciousness or practice, where the practitioner relies on internal steadiness rather than external guidance or ritual.
In yoga contexts, niralamba is contrasted with alamba, or supported practice. Some texts describe niralamba samadhi
Origins and usage vary by school. The term is found in Sanskrit commentaries and modern yoga writings,
