Ninaõõnsused

Ninaõõnsused, often referred to as nasal polyps, are soft, non-cancerous growths that can develop in the nasal passages and sinuses. These growths typically arise from inflammation of the nasal lining, a condition known as rhinosinusitis. While the exact cause is not always clear, they are frequently associated with chronic allergies, asthma, cystic fibrosis, and aspirin sensitivity.

The presence of ninaõõnsused can lead to a variety of symptoms. These commonly include nasal congestion, a reduced sense of smell or taste, and a feeling of fullness in the face. Postnasal drip, a sensation of mucus draining down the back of the throat, is also a frequent complaint. Some individuals may experience facial pain or pressure, headaches, and recurrent sinus infections. In more severe cases, they can obstruct breathing through the nose entirely.

Diagnosis of ninaõõnsused usually involves a physical examination of the nasal cavity, often with the aid of a nasal endoscope. Imaging studies such as CT scans may be used to assess the extent of the polyps and their location within the sinuses. Treatment approaches vary depending on the severity of symptoms and the underlying cause. Medical management often includes nasal corticosteroid sprays to reduce inflammation and shrink the polyps. Antihistamines may be prescribed for allergic individuals. In cases where medical treatment is insufficient or breathing is significantly impaired, surgical removal of the polyps through endoscopic sinus surgery may be recommended.
