Niittausmenetelmillä refers to riveting methods, a process of joining two or more materials by fastening them together with a rivet. Riveting is a permanent joining technique that is often used in applications where welding is not feasible or desirable due to material properties, heat distortion, or cost.

The basic principle of riveting involves inserting a rivet through aligned holes in the materials to be joined. The tail of the rivet is then deformed, or "upset," to create a second head, thus clamping the materials together. There are several types of rivets, including solid rivets, blind rivets (also known as pop rivets), and tubular rivets, each suited for different applications and requiring different tooling.

Solid rivets are the most traditional type and require access to both sides of the joint for installation. Blind rivets, on the other hand, can be installed from one side only, making them ideal for situations where access is limited. Tubular rivets have a partially hollow shank that facilitates easier deformation.

The process of riveting can be performed manually using hand tools or with pneumatic, hydraulic, or electric riveting tools. The choice of method depends on the volume of work, the size and type of rivets, and the required speed and precision. Riveting is commonly found in industries such as aerospace, automotive manufacturing, construction, and general fabrication. While newer joining technologies have emerged, riveting remains a reliable and cost-effective method for many applications, particularly where vibration resistance and structural integrity are paramount.
