Nieuwendam

Nieuwendam is a locality and former village in the Netherlands, located in the municipality of Amsterdam in the province of North Holland. It is part of Amsterdam-Noord and sits on the north bank of the IJ, near the North Sea Canal. The name Nieuwendam translates to "new dam," reflecting its historical role in water management around the IJ.

Historically, Nieuwendam existed as an independent village and municipality. In 1921 the area was annexed by the city of Amsterdam as part of the city's northward expansion. The historic core retains a village-like character with narrow streets, traditional houses, and a small church.
