Nichtbildzonen

Nichtbildzonen, which translates to "non-image zones" or "dead zones" in English, is a term used in the context of imaging and optical systems. It refers to areas within the field of view or on a sensor where image data is either completely absent, corrupted, or unreliable. These zones can arise from various factors depending on the specific technology.

In digital imaging sensors, such as those found in cameras, nichtbildzonen might occur due to manufacturing defects in individual pixels or groups of pixels. These malfunctioning pixels might not capture light correctly, leading to black, white, or incorrectly colored spots in the final image. In some cases, entire rows or columns of pixels could fail, resulting in larger non-image areas.

Another common cause of nichtbildzonen is related to the optics of the system. For example, internal components like mounting hardware for lenses or sensors can cast shadows within the imaging path, creating dark, unusable regions in the image.
