Nettonollutsläpp

Nettonollutsläpp, often translated as net-zero emissions, refers to a state where the amount of greenhouse gases released into the atmosphere is balanced by the amount removed from it. This does not necessarily mean zero emissions, but rather a situation where any remaining emissions are offset by carbon sequestration or removal. Achieving net-zero emissions is a key global climate goal aimed at limiting global warming.

The concept involves a two-pronged approach. Firstly, it necessitates a significant reduction in greenhouse gas emissions across all sectors, including energy, industry, transportation, and agriculture. This reduction is typically achieved through transitioning to renewable energy sources, improving energy efficiency, and adopting sustainable practices. Secondly, it requires methods to remove greenhouse gases already present in the atmosphere. These removal methods can include natural processes like afforestation and reforestation, as well as technological solutions such as direct air capture.

Many countries and organizations have set net-zero targets, often with specific deadlines such as 2050. The pathways to achieving net-zero are diverse and depend on regional contexts, technological advancements, and policy frameworks. The transition to net-zero emissions is a complex undertaking that requires systemic changes and international cooperation.
