NeoDada

Neo-Dada was an artistic movement that emerged in the early 1970s, primarily in the United States. It was a revival of the Dada movement, a radical and provocative art movement that originated in the 1910s. Neo-Dada artists sought to challenge traditional notions of art and aesthetics, often incorporating non-traditional materials and techniques into their work.

Like the original Dada movement, Neo-Dada was characterized by its emphasis on shock and provocation. Artists associated with the movement, such as Allan Kaprow and Bruce Nauman, created works that often defied categorization and blurred the lines between art, performance, and everyday life. These works frequently incorporated found objects, assemblage, and other unconventional methods of artistic expression.

Neo-Dada artists were not looking to create art in the classical sense, but rather to create an experience or an event that challenged the viewer's expectations. Many Neo-Dada works were site-specific and ephemeral, existing only for the duration of a performance or an exhibition. This lack of physicality, combined with the often-promiscuous use of unconventional materials, undermined the authority of traditional art forms and the art marketplace.

In this way, Neo-Dada movement was seen as a way to challenge the conceptual basis of the art world. By undermining traditional notions of art, Neo-Dada artists were able to expand the possibilities of what constitutes art. The movement's experimental and avant-garde approach has had a lasting impact on the development of subsequent art movements, including Fluxus, Conceptual Art, and various types of Performance Art.
