Nebentrakt is a term used in German-speaking architecture to denote a secondary wing or annex of a building, attached to the main structure (Haupttrakt) but treated as a distinct functional unit. The word derives from Neben- “beside” and Trakt “wing” or “section.” Nebentrakte are common in large institutional and historic buildings, such as hospitals, universities, palaces, churches, and factory complexes, where they provide support facilities, administrative offices, or specialized rooms without enlarging the mass of the main façade.
