Nathula

Nathula, also known as Nathula Pass, is a historical mountain pass situated in the eastern Himalayas on the border between India and China. Located within the Indian state of Sikkim, it connects the Indian town of Gangtok with Tingri in Tibet. The pass is approximately 14,140 feet (4,310 meters) above sea level and is part of the historic Silk Road trading routes, serving as a strategic passageway for commerce and military movement.

Nathula has significant geopolitical importance due to its location on the India-China border. It was originally established during the British colonial period as a trade route and later gained prominence in military and diplomatic negotiations. The pass was closed for several years following conflicts, such as the 1962 India-China war, but was opened to limited military traffic in 2006 and to civilian tourists in 2015, under strict regulations.
