Naragrad

Naragrad is a mid-sized city and administrative hub in the fictional nation of Veridia. It sits on the Narad River and is the capital of Naragin Province. The urban area covers about 86 square kilometers and had a population of roughly 280,000 in 2022. The city experiences a temperate climate with mild winters and warm summers.

Naragrad was founded in the 12th century by the Nar tribes and grew as a river marketplace. It became the capital of Naragin Province in the late medieval period and developed into an industrial center during the 19th and 20th centuries, particularly in textiles and metalworking. In the late 20th century, Naragrad expanded its role in administration, logistics, and higher education.

Naragrad operates under a mayor-council government. The city council has 28 members elected for four-year terms, and the mayor serves as the head of both the executive and ceremonial functions. The city is the provincial capital and hosts several regional government agencies.

Key sectors include logistics and transportation, due to its river port and rail junction; manufacturing, services, and retail; and tourism tied to historic sites.

The population is diverse, with multiple ethnic communities. Official language is Veridian; Naradian is commonly spoken. Religious composition is varied with secular majority and minority faiths.

Transportation includes Naragrad International Airport, a river port, and a network of buses and a light rail line. The University of Naragrad and several technical institutes provide higher education.

Historic Old Market, Naragrad Fortress, and the River Promenade are noted. The city hosts annual Naragrad Festival in summer.
