NanoString Technologies, now part of Somasphere, developed and commercialized a ncounter-based gene expression, protein, and cell type analysis platform. This platform offered a method for high-throughput, multiplexed analysis without the need for amplification. The core technology involved directly counting individual molecules of RNA or protein within a sample. This was achieved by binding target molecules to specific reporter molecules, which were then immobilized on a surface and illuminated.
