Namemarking

Namemarking is a practice found in various cultures and historical periods where individuals or groups physically mark themselves or others with symbols, names, or other identifying information. This practice can serve a multitude of purposes, ranging from asserting ownership and identity to signifying social status, tribal affiliation, or religious devotion.

Historically, namemarking has manifested in diverse forms. Tattooing, scarification, and branding are common methods used to permanently alter the skin for identification.
