NYCRTA
NYCRTA, or the New York City Rail Transit Authority, was a public transportation entity that operated subway and elevated lines in New York City. It was established in 1953 by the New York State Legislature, consolidating the operations of the three private companies that then ran the city's subways: the Interborough Rapid Transit Company (IRT), the Brooklyn-Manhattan Transit Corporation (BMT), and the Independent Subway System (IND). This consolidation aimed to create a unified and more efficient public transit system for the city.
