NTRIPprotokollaa refers to the Networked Transport of RTCM via Internet Protocol. It is a standard protocol for broadcasting Global Navigation Satellite System (GNSS) correction data over the internet. This allows for the real-time kinematic (RTK) positioning and other high-precision GNSS applications to be performed using a single reference station. The NTRIP protocol defines how GNSS correction data, typically in the Radio Technical Commission for Maritime Services (RTCM) format, is transmitted from a base station to a mobile rover receiver.

The NTRIP architecture consists of three main components: the NTRIP Source, the NTRIP Server, and the NTRIP Client. The NTRIP Source is the GNSS receiver that generates the correction data. This data is then sent to the NTRIP Server, which acts as a gateway, managing multiple data streams and making them available to clients. The NTRIP Client is the GNSS receiver at the rover location that receives the correction data from the server. The communication between these components typically occurs over HTTP.

NTRIP enables a single GNSS base station to serve correction data to numerous rover users simultaneously, significantly reducing the infrastructure costs associated with traditional RTK networks that require dedicated radio links. This widespread accessibility has been crucial for the adoption of high-precision GNSS in various fields, including surveying, precision agriculture, autonomous driving, and machine control. The protocol ensures efficient data transfer and allows for flexible network configurations.
