NH3päästöt

NH3päästöt refers to ammonia emissions. Ammonia (NH3) is a colorless gas with a pungent odor, composed of nitrogen and hydrogen. It is a significant air pollutant with widespread environmental and health impacts.

The primary source of NH3päästöt globally and in many developed countries is agriculture, particularly livestock farming and the use of nitrogen fertilizers. Animal manure management, including storage and spreading, releases substantial amounts of ammonia. The application of synthetic nitrogen fertilizers to crops also contributes significantly. These particles can be inhaled and cause respiratory and cardiovascular problems. Ammonia also contributes to eutrophication of aquatic ecosystems and acidification of soils, harming biodiversity. It can also reduce visibility.

These include more efficient manure management techniques such as covering manure storage, injecting or incorporating manure into the soil, and using low-emission fertilizer application methods.
