NACEbasert

NACEbasert refers to classification, analysis, or data organized according to the NACE classification system, the European Union standard for economic activity classification (NACE Rev. 2). NACE Rev. 2 provides a hierarchical coding of businesses by their main activity, with two-digit sections (A–S) and finer four-digit subsections.

The term is used in Norwegian and other European contexts to describe statistics, registries, and research that align with NACE categories. It is common in official statistics, business registries, and public procurement to enable international comparability and consistent time series. In Norway, agencies such as Statistics Norway (Statistisk sentralbyrå) apply NACE-based classification when reporting industry data, measuring employment, turnover, and value added, and producing sectoral breakdowns in economic analyses.

Usage examples include designating a company under code C for manufacturing, G for wholesale and retail, or M for professional, scientific, and technical activities. Such classifications facilitate cross-country comparisons and align national data with Eurostat and EU reporting requirements.

Limitations include the need to map national or international codes to NACE, as some activities do not map cleanly to a single code. Businesses with diverse operations may require multiple classifications, and changes in classification schemes can affect longitudinal analyses. Language and translation differences can introduce minor inconsistencies across datasets.

NACEbasert remains a common descriptor in statistical and administrative contexts, closely tied to NACE Rev. 2 and its use in European statistical work and national economic reporting.
