Müratõke

Müratõke, often translated as noise barrier or sound barrier, refers to a structure or landscape feature designed to reduce sound transmission. These barriers are typically employed in environments where noise pollution is a significant concern, such as along highways, railways, or in industrial areas. The primary function of a müratõke is to block or absorb sound waves, thereby creating a quieter environment for nearby residents or sensitive ecosystems.

The effectiveness of a müratõke depends on several factors, including its height, length, mass, and the presence of absorptive materials. Taller and longer barriers generally provide greater attenuation. Dense materials are more effective at blocking sound than lighter ones. Surface treatments can also play a role; rough or porous surfaces can absorb sound, reducing reflections and further contributing to noise reduction.

Common materials used for constructing müratõkked include concrete, brick, wood, metal, and specially designed composite panels. In some cases, dense vegetation, such as thick rows of trees and shrubs, can also act as a natural müratõke, although their effectiveness is generally less than that of engineered structures.
