Financial brokers execute trades or provide investment guidance for clients in stock or bond markets. Insurance mæglere compare policies and arrange coverage for individuals or businesses. Art and antiques mæglere facilitate introductions between collectors and sellers and assist with provenance and valuations.

Remuneration is usually commission-based, commonly a percentage of the transaction value, but some mæglere charge fixed fees or hourly rates. The exact terms depend on the market, jurisdiction, and service level. In many cases, fees are contingent on a successful transaction, though advisory services may be billed separately.
