Märkäjyrsintä

Märkäjyrsintä, a Finnish term, translates to "wet milling" or "wet grinding" in English. It refers to a mechanical process where solid materials are reduced in size and dispersed in a liquid medium. This technique is commonly employed in various industrial applications, including the production of paints, inks, ceramics, and food products.

The process involves a milling chamber containing grinding media, such as beads or balls, typically made of ceramic or metal. The material to be processed is introduced into the chamber along with the liquid. As the chamber rotates or agitates, the grinding media collide with the solid particles, breaking them down into smaller fragments and creating a fine suspension or slurry. The choice of grinding media, their size and density, as well as the milling speed and duration, are critical factors in determining the final particle size and the efficiency of the process.

Märkäjyrsintä offers several advantages over dry grinding. The presence of the liquid medium helps to cool the material, preventing thermal degradation, and also aids in preventing the generation of fine dust. It can achieve very fine particle sizes, often in the sub-micron range, which is essential for applications requiring high dispersion and homogeneity.
