Májtranszplantáció

Májtranszplantáció is the surgical procedure to replace a diseased or damaged liver with a healthy liver from a donor. This life-saving operation is considered when a patient's liver is no longer functioning adequately, a condition often referred to as liver failure. Common causes for the need for a liver transplant include chronic liver diseases such as cirrhosis, hepatitis B and C, alcoholic liver disease, and non-alcoholic fatty liver disease. Acute liver failure, which can arise from drug overdose or certain infections, can also necessitate a transplant.

The process involves extensive evaluation of potential recipients to ensure they are suitable candidates for surgery and will benefit from a new liver. Donors can be deceased individuals or living relatives who donate a portion of their liver. The surgery itself is complex, requiring the diseased liver to be removed and replaced with the donor organ. Post-transplant care is critical, involving lifelong immunosuppressant medication to prevent the body from rejecting the new organ and regular medical follow-ups. While a liver transplant offers a chance at a significantly improved quality of life and prolonged survival for many patients, it is a major surgery with inherent risks and requires a lifelong commitment to medical management.
