Májmetasztázisok

Májmetasztázisok, also known as secondary liver cancer or liver metastases, are malignant tumors that have spread to the liver from another primary cancer site within the body. They are not primary liver cancers, which originate in the liver itself. The liver is a common site for metastasis due to its rich blood supply and its role in filtering blood. Cancer cells that break away from a primary tumor can enter the bloodstream or lymphatic system and travel to the liver, where they can establish new tumors.

The symptoms of májmetasztázisok can vary depending on the size and number of the tumors, as well as the location and the primary cancer type. Common symptoms may include abdominal pain or discomfort, jaundice (yellowing of the skin and eyes), unexplained weight loss, fatigue, loss of appetite, and nausea. In some cases, especially when the metastases are small, individuals may experience no noticeable symptoms.

The diagnosis of májmetasztázisok typically involves a combination of imaging techniques such as ultrasound, CT scans, and MRI scans, which can visualize the tumors in the liver. Blood tests, including liver function tests and tumor markers, may also be used to aid in diagnosis and monitoring. A biopsy of the liver tumor may be performed to confirm the presence of cancer cells and determine their origin.

Treatment for májmetasztázisok depends on several factors, including the type and stage of the primary cancer, the extent of liver involvement, the patient's overall health, and whether the cancer is considered resectable. Treatment options may include surgery to remove the cancerous nodules, chemotherapy, radiation therapy, targeted drug therapy, or immunotherapy. Palliative care may also be employed to manage symptoms and improve quality of life.
