Myöhäismodernin

Myöhäismoderni, meaning late modern in Finnish, refers to a period of artistic, architectural, and cultural development that followed high modernism. It is characterized by a critical re-evaluation of modernist ideals and a growing awareness of the limitations and potential negative consequences of rapid societal and technological change. This phase, roughly spanning from the mid-20th century to the late 20th century, saw a questioning of universalism and a move towards more contextual and pluralistic approaches.

In architecture, myöhäismoderni often involved a departure from the strict functionalism and utopian aspirations of earlier modernism. Architects began to incorporate historical references, local vernacular styles, and a greater emphasis on human scale and experience. This often resulted in a more eclectic and less dogmatic architectural language.
