Munasarjakasvit

Munasarjakasvit is a Finnish term that translates to "ovulate plants" or more commonly, "gymnosperms" in English botanical classification. This group of plants, unlike angiosperms (flowering plants), do not produce flowers or fruits. Instead, their seeds are typically borne on the surface of cone-like structures, often referred to as cones. The term "munasarjakasvit" emphasizes the key characteristic that their ovules, which develop into seeds, are not enclosed within an ovary.

Gymnosperms represent an ancient lineage of vascular plants. They were the dominant terrestrial plants during the Mesozoic Era. Today, they are a diverse group that includes conifers such as pines, firs, and spruces, as well as cycads, ginkgoes, and the unique Gnetales. These plants are found in a wide range of habitats across the globe, from temperate forests to tropical regions, and some species are adapted to harsh environments like high altitudes or arid deserts.
