Multischalter

A Multischalter, also known as a multiswitch or distribution amplifier, is an electronic device used in satellite television reception systems. Its primary function is to distribute a satellite signal from a single satellite dish to multiple receivers or televisions within a building or household. The Multischalter takes the signal from a Universal LNB (Low-Noise Block downconverter) and splits it into individual outputs, each capable of feeding a separate set-top box.

These devices are crucial for installations where more than one television needs to receive satellite channels independently. They typically have several input ports corresponding to the different polarizations (horizontal and vertical) and frequency bands (low and high) of the satellite signal. The Multischalter then combines these signals and distributes them to multiple output ports, usually ranging from 4 to 16 or more.

Modern Multischalter often incorporate integrated terrestrial television (DVB-T/T2) reception as well. This allows a single cable run from the Multischalter to a wall socket to provide both satellite and terrestrial channels, simplifying installation. They are powered by an external power supply or via the coaxial cable from the receiver. Choosing the correct Multischalter depends on the number of desired outputs and whether terrestrial signal integration is needed.
