Multaus

Multaus is a genus of passerine birds in the family Muscicapidae, commonly known as Old World flycatchers. The genus currently contains two species: Multaus crypta and Multaus rubecula. These birds are found in various habitats across Asia, primarily in forests and woodlands.

Multaus crypta, often referred to as the spotted flycatcher, is characterized by its dull brown plumage with distinct white spotting on its underparts. It is an insectivorous bird, feeding on flying insects caught in mid-air. Multaus rubecula, known as the red-breasted flycatcher, exhibits a more striking appearance with a prominent red-orange breast that contrasts with its greyish-brown upperparts. Both species share a similar foraging behavior, perching on vantage points and sallying forth to catch prey.

The breeding season for Multaus species typically occurs during the spring and summer months. They build cup-shaped nests, usually in trees or shrubs, and lay clutches of a few eggs. Both parents are generally involved in incubation and raising the young. The exact distribution and population status of each species can vary, with some considered widespread while others may have more restricted ranges.
