Mullenweg

Matt Mullenweg (born January 11, 1984) is an American web developer and entrepreneur, best known for co-creating WordPress, the open-source content management system that powers a large portion of the web. He is the founder and chief executive officer of Automattic, the company behind WordPress.com, WooCommerce, Akismet, and other services that support the WordPress ecosystem.

WordPress began in 2003 as a fork of b2/cafelog, created by Mullenweg and Mike Little. It grew into one of the most widely used CMS platforms, praised for its extensible design, a large library of plugins and themes, and active community development.

In 2005 Mullenweg founded Automattic, a distributed company with employees around the world. Automattic provides hosted WordPress services and commercial products that support the open-source project, and it remains a major driver of WordPress's commercial ecosystem.

He attended the University of Houston, studying political science, before leaving to devote himself to WordPress full-time. He has been active in the open-source community, contributing to governance discussions around WordPress and supporting initiatives to promote open web standards and distributed work cultures.

Through his work with WordPress and Automattic, Mullenweg has become a prominent figure in the web development community and a frequent speaker at technology conferences and WordCamp events.
