Her early breakout came in the 1990s with the josei manga Happy Mania, a series noted for its sharp character studies and stylish visuals.

Her later works include Sakuran, a historical manga about a girl who rises to prominence as a courtesan in Edo-period Japan. Sakuran was adapted into a 2006 film of the same name, directed by Mika Ninagawa, which helped broaden Moyoco’s profile beyond comics and into broader popular culture.
