Motorvridmoment

Motorvridmoment is a Dutch term that describes the torque produced by a motor about its output shaft. In English, this corresponds to motor torque or twisting moment, and it is a key parameter in selecting and evaluating motors for mechanical systems. The motorvridmoment is typically expressed in newton-meters (Nm) and represents the rotational force the motor can exert at a given speed.

The torque a motor can deliver depends on the motor type and operating conditions. For many electric motors, torque is related to current: higher current generally yields higher torque up to the motor’s limits. A common concrete descriptor is the stall torque, the maximum torque when the motor is not rotating, and the continuous or rated torque, the torque it can sustain over time without overheating. The relationship between torque and speed is often shown by a torque-speed curve, where torque falls as speed increases for many motor designs.

Power and efficiency are closely linked to motorvridmoment. Output power is the product of torque and angular velocity (P = τ · ω). When a gearbox is used, the torque at the load increases by the gear ratio (minus losses) while the speed decreases by the same factor, altering the effective motorvridmoment seen by the driven system.

Factors such as temperature, magnetic saturation, mechanical friction, and electrical losses influence the available torque. The term is commonly used in engineering specifications and discussions of motor performance, and is interchangeable with the general concept of torque in motor catalogs. Synonyms include koppel or draaimoment in Dutch contexts.
