Motorkerékpár

A motorkerékpár, commonly known as a moped in English, is a two-wheeled motor vehicle designed primarily for personal transportation. It typically features a small engine, usually ranging from 50 to 500 cubic centimeters (cc), and is powered by gasoline or, less commonly, electricity. Motorkerékpárok are characterized by their lightweight construction, often weighing between 80 and 150 kilograms, and are equipped with pedals for manual propulsion, though they are primarily driven by the engine.

In Hungary and many other European countries, motorkerékpárok are classified as light motor vehicles, requiring a driver’s license (often a restricted category such as AM or A1, depending on the engine size). They are widely used for urban commuting due to their fuel efficiency, ease of parking, and relatively low cost of ownership compared to cars or motorcycles. The term "motorkerékpár" is predominantly used in Hungarian-speaking regions, while similar vehicles are referred to as mopeds, scooters, or small motorcycles in other languages.

Motorkerékpárok generally have a step-through frame, allowing riders to mount and dismount easily. They often include features such as a small windshield, storage compartments, and sometimes sidecars or cargo attachments. Safety regulations vary by country, but most require helmets, reflectors, and functional lights. Due to their popularity, they have contributed to the development of dedicated lanes and infrastructure in some cities to improve traffic flow and rider safety.
