Morgon

Morgon is both a commune in the Rhône department of eastern France and the name of one of Beaujolais’ ten wine crus. As a Beaujolais cru, Morgon produces red wines primarily from the Gamay grape. The commune lies in the northern Beaujolais hills, with sun-exposed slopes that rise toward the Saône valley. The most celebrated vineyard on the Morgon slope is the Côte du Py, a steep hillside known for producing wines of depth and aging potential. Soils on the slopes are largely blue schist with clay and iron-rich pockets that contribute structure and mineral character.
