Mopria

Mopria is a nonprofit alliance that develops and promotes universal mobile printing standards to simplify printing from smartphones and tablets to printers and imaging devices. The alliance brings together leading printer and device manufacturers and technology companies to enable cross‑brand printing and scanning over local networks.

To achieve interoperability, Mopria defines a set of discovery, printing, and scanning protocols that operate over standard network technologies. Devices that implement the Mopria standards can be automatically discovered by Mopria‑compatible mobile apps and print drivers, enabling a straightforward printer selection experience. The standards are designed to support secure printing and to work with common document types and media sizes.

Mopria also maintains a certification program. Printers, multifunction printers, and imaging devices that pass Mopria certification meet the alliance’s interoperability requirements and may bear the Mopria Certified mark. This helps users identify printers that should work with Mopria‑compatible apps and services.

The Mopria ecosystem includes the Mopria Print Service app for Android, which detects Mopria‑certified printers on the same network and provides a driverless printing experience for supported content types. The alliance provides guidelines and resources for software vendors and printer manufacturers to promote compatibility across brands and platforms, strengthening cross‑vendor mobile printing.
