Monacos

Monacos is not a standard or widely used term in English. It may appear as a mistaken plural form of Monaco or in multilingual contexts referring to things associated with the principality. The conventional English usage for the country is Monaco, and the inhabitants are typically described as Monégasques.

Monaco, officially the Principality of Monaco, is a sovereign city-state located on the French Riviera in Western Europe. It is bordered by France on three sides and the Mediterranean Sea to the south. Covering about 2.02 square kilometers, it is the second smallest independent state in the world. The population is around 39,000, resulting in one of the highest population densities globally.

Monaco is a constitutional monarchy governed under a system in which the Prince of Monaco is the head of state and a ministerial council forms the government. The current sovereign is Prince Albert II. The constitution, first enacted in the early 20th century and amended several times, establishes the framework for the legislature and the prince’s powers within the state’s political system.

Economy and society in Monaco are dominated by services, finance, tourism, and real estate. The principality is renowned for its luxury sector, including the Monte Carlo district, high-end hospitality, and major events such as the Monaco Grand Prix. Monaco maintains a favorable tax regime with no general personal income tax, relying on value-added taxes, duties, and tourism revenue.

Culture and language reflect its proximity to France and Italy. The official language is French; Monégasque, Italian, and English are also widely used. The euro serves as the common currency. Notable landmarks include the Prince’s Palace, the Oceanographic Museum, and the Monte Carlo Casino.

History covers the Grimaldi dynasty’s rule since 1297, gradual enlargement of sovereignty, a 19th‑ and 20th‑century treaty with France, and gradual constitutional development. Monaco joined the United Nations in 1993.
