Molekyletts

Molekyletts are a hypothetical class of molecular machines that are envisioned to be extremely small, on the scale of molecules themselves. The term "molekylett" is a portmanteau combining "molecule" and "skelett," the Swedish word for skeleton, suggesting a basic structural framework that could be assembled or manipulated. The concept of molekyletts is closely tied to the field of nanotechnology and molecular manufacturing, aiming to create functional devices from individual atoms and molecules.

The primary idea behind molekyletts is that they could be designed to perform specific tasks at a molecular level. This could include tasks such as targeted drug delivery within the human body, intricate assembly of materials atom by atom, or sophisticated environmental sensing and remediation. Unlike larger nanobots, which might be constructed from many components, molekyletts would ideally be single-molecule or near-single-molecule entities, designed with specific chemical functionalities and a defined three-dimensional structure to achieve their purpose.

Research into molekyletts is largely theoretical and remains in the early stages of conceptualization.
