Moldids

Moldids are a hypothetical group of organisms that have been proposed to inhabit environments with high levels of mold or fungal growth. The concept of moldids is not a scientifically recognized taxonomic classification and is primarily found in speculative fiction or theoretical discussions about extremophiles. These hypothetical organisms are theorized to have evolved adaptations that allow them to consume, utilize, or otherwise thrive in environments dominated by fungi, which are often toxic or inhospitable to other life forms. Their proposed metabolism might involve the breakdown of complex fungal cell walls or the sequestration of mycotoxins. The existence of moldids remains purely theoretical, with no empirical evidence to support their presence in any known ecosystem. Researchers in astrobiology or extremophile biology occasionally consider such theoretical organisms when discussing the potential for life in unusual or seemingly barren environments, but moldids are not a current subject of active scientific investigation.
