Moderorganisationen, or the parent organization, is the top-level entity in a corporate or organizational group that exercises control over one or more subsidiary or affiliated entities. The term is used in corporate, non-profit, and mixed structures to describe the body that holds ownership, governance rights, or other formal influence enabling it to guide the group’s overall direction.

Control is typically established through ownership of voting shares, the power to appoint the majority of the board, or contractual arrangements that grant decisive influence. In many jurisdictions, the parent is responsible for consolidated financial reporting, strategic planning, and setting standards that apply across the group.

Functions and responsibilities of a moderorganisation include strategic direction, capital allocation, risk management, compliance, and policy development. It often provides central services such as human resources, information technology, legal, and treasury, achieving economies of scale and consistency of practices. The parent usually oversees subsidiaries and affiliates, while allowing some degree of operational autonomy to respond to local conditions.
