Modernizmas

Modernizmas, or Modernism, refers to a broad philosophical, cultural, and artistic movement that emerged in the late 19th and early 20th centuries. It was characterized by a deliberate break with traditional forms of art, literature, architecture, and design. Modernists sought to represent a new way of seeing and understanding the world, often influenced by rapid industrialization, urbanization, and new scientific and philosophical ideas.

Key tenets of Modernism include experimentation with new forms and techniques, a focus on subjective experience, and an engagement with the complexities and anxieties of modern life. In literature, this manifested in stream-of-consciousness narratives and fragmented structures, while in art, it led to abstract and non-representational styles. Architects embraced functionalism and new materials, rejecting historical ornamentation.

The movement was not monolithic, encompassing diverse currents such as Futurism, Cubism, Surrealism, and Expressionism. Despite its varied manifestations, Modernism shared a common desire to reflect and respond to the seismic shifts occurring in society.
