Mixmers are a type of polymer material that combines distinct polymer phases to achieve a unique set of properties not obtainable by individual components. The concept of mixmers, sometimes referred to as polymer blends or alloys, involves the physical mixing of two or more polymers. The effectiveness of a mixmer relies on the degree of compatibility between the constituent polymers. Incompatible polymer blends often exhibit phase separation, leading to a heterogeneous morphology. This phase separation can be detrimental to mechanical properties, as it creates weak interfaces between the distinct polymer domains.
