Mitteeletrolüüt

Mitteeletrolüüt refers to a substance that exhibits electrolytic properties but in a very limited or insufficient capacity to function as a typical electrolyte. This implies that while it may contain some ions or possess the potential for ionic conduction, its ability to facilitate the flow of electric current is significantly hindered or negligible under normal conditions.

The term suggests a substance that is either a poor conductor of electricity in an ionic sense or possesses a very low concentration of charge carriers. This could arise from a variety of factors. For instance, a solution might be extremely dilute, containing very few dissolved ionic species. Alternatively, the ions present might be very large, poorly mobile, or strongly associated, thus impeding their movement through the medium. In some cases, a substance might be considered a mitteeletrolüüt if its conductivity is only measurable under extreme conditions, such as very high voltages or temperatures, which are not typically associated with its intended use.

The distinction between a true electrolyte and a mitteeletrolüüt lies in the degree of ionic conductivity. While electrolytes readily conduct electricity through the movement of ions, a mitteeletrolüüt demonstrates a minimal or practically non-existent level of such conductivity. This characteristic can be important in applications where a complete absence of ionic conduction is desired, or where the substance is intended for a role other than charge transport.
