Missenden

Missenden is a market town in Buckinghamshire, England, situated about twelve miles west of Milton Keynes and four miles east of Aylesbury. It lies within the civil parish of Missenden and forms part of the Aylesbury Vale district. The town's estimated population in 2021 was approximately 7,500 residents, reflecting modest growth since the early 20th century.

The origins of Missenden date back to pre‑Roman times, with evidence of Roman roads passing nearby. Throughout the Middle Ages the settlement prospered as a trading centre, a status cemented by the establishment of a market in 1236. The parish church of St. Mary, a Grade I listed building, dates from the 13th century and is the town’s principal architectural landmark. In the 19th century, the arrival of the railway in 1858 linked Missenden to broader markets, fostering industrial activity such as local breweries and textile production.
