Mirthol is a fictional mineral described in science fiction and speculative materials science. It is characterized as a rare metallic oxide with an iridescent surface and exceptional hardness. In various narratives, mirthol forms in high-temperature hydrothermal veins and is prized for combining mechanical strength with unusual electrical properties.

In imagined crystal chemistry, mirthol belongs to a distorted hexagonal system. Reported compositions emphasize a base metal oxide with trace dopants such as nickel and vanadium, producing mixed valence states that give electronic conductivity and catalytic potential. Field tests in fiction often cite Mohs hardness near 7 to 8 and a density around 6.8 to 7.9 g/cm³. Its surface oxidizes to a bright, prismatic luster, contributing to its distinctive appearance.

Geologic occurrence varies by work but commonly places mirthol in deep crustal settings associated with quartz, fluorite, and rare-earth minerals. Extraction is described as demanding, requiring high-pressure crushing and chemically controlled refining to prevent degradation of the oxide.
