Minderinvasieve

Minderinvasieve is a Dutch term used to describe techniques, procedures, or devices that aim to cause less tissue disruption and trauma than traditional approaches. It corresponds to the concept of minimally invasive in English and is applied across medical fields as well as in dentistry, radiology, and surgical planning.

The term is formed from minder (less) and invasieve (invasive). In standard Dutch, the phrase “minder invasieve” is common, but compounds like minderinvasieve are also encountered in medical and policy texts. The idea denotes approaches that emphasize smaller incisions, reduced physiological impact, and faster recovery.

Examples of minderinvasieve approaches include laparoscopic and robotic-assisted surgery, which use small incisions instead of open operations; endoscopic procedures that treat diseases through natural openings; and percutaneous or endovascular interventions that access via the skin rather than large openings. In dentistry, minimally invasive techniques seek to preserve tooth structure. Benefits typically include shorter hospital stays, less pain, and fewer complications; limitations include applicability to suitable conditions, need for specialized equipment and training, and sometimes longer procedure times or higher costs.

History and status: The minimally invasive paradigm gained prominence with the development of laparoscopic surgery in the 1980s and has since expanded with advances in imaging, instrumentation, and robotics. Ongoing research aims to broaden indications, improve precision, and reduce costs while maintaining safety and favorable outcomes.
