Miljøetklarhet is a term used in Nordic discussions of environmental communication to describe the degree to which environmental information is presented in a way that is accurate, accessible, and understandable to non-specialists. The concept combines transparency about data and methods with clear explanations of what the data imply for policy, business, and daily life.

In practice, miljøetklarhet covers the clarity of reporting, the consistency of metrics, and the availability of contextual information such as uncertainties and assumptions. It is used in corporate sustainability reporting, government environmental communication, and public risk communication to support informed decision-making and public trust.

Common practices include plain-language summaries, standard formats for environmental data, dashboard visualizations, and the use of open, machine-readable data where possible. Readability measures and stakeholder feedback are sometimes employed to assess readability and accessibility.

Critics note that pushing for maximum clarity should not erase technical nuance or hinder rigorous discussion of uncertainty. There is also a risk that emphasis on clarity could smooth over contested trade-offs. Proponents argue that greater clarity promotes accountability and civic participation.
