Midcalf

Midcalf is a term used in anatomy and fashion to describe the middle portion of the lower leg, between the knee and the ankle. In anatomical terms, it refers to the region of the leg that encompasses the calf muscles, specifically the posterior aspect of the lower leg. The term is commonly used descriptively rather than as a strict clinical landmark.

Anatomy: The midcalf region contains the gastrocnemius and soleus muscles, which together form the calf. The skin and subcutaneous tissue overlie these muscles, with underlying vessels and nerves. The shin, or tibia, forms the anterior border of the lower leg; the ankle marks the distal limit. The midcalf is thus the central portion of the lower leg when viewed from the back or from the side.

In clothing and fashion, midcalf refers to garment lengths that reach roughly halfway down the lower leg. Midcalf socks or stockings extend to the middle portion of the calf and are shorter than knee-highs. Midcalf boots are designed to cover the lower leg to a similar height.
