Microstigma

Microstigma is a genus of flowering plants in the family Orchidaceae, commonly known as orchids. The genus is native to Asia, specifically in countries such as China, Japan, and India. Microstigma orchids are terrestrial plants, growing in a variety of habitats including forests, grasslands, and rocky areas.

Characteristics of the genus include its small to medium size, with some species reaching heights of up to 30 cm. The flowers are also relatively small, measuring around 1-2 cm in diameter, and are often white, yellow, or purple in color. The leaves are linear or ligulate in shape, typically 3-15 cm in length, and are arranged in a basal rosette.

There are currently eight species known to belong to the Microstigma genus. One notable species, Microstigma kinoshitae, has a unique characteristic of its flowers being constricted at the base, resembling a tube. Other species, like Microstigma glabrum, have yellow or white flowers with a distinctive labellum.

Microstigma orchids have a relatively limited distribution, and are mostly found in China, Japan, and parts of India. They are often found in rocky areas, such as screes, or in areas with low vegetation. These plants are relatively unknown among orchid enthusiasts, and more research is needed to fully understand their ecology and conservation status. However, due to their unique characteristics and habitat specialization, they are of interest to botanists and plant researchers. Further study is required to expand knowledge of this genus.
