Mfs1
Mfs1 is a gene symbol used in molecular biology to denote a member of the major facilitator superfamily (MFS) of transporters. The designation appears in multiple organisms, especially fungi and bacteria, where Mfs1-related proteins function as membrane transporters that move small solutes across the cell membrane. Members of the MFS are typically around 500 amino acids in length and contain 12 transmembrane α-helices, forming a central channel through which substrates can pass.
Substrate specificity among Mfs1 homologs varies widely. Some Mfs1-like transporters are involved in nutrient uptake, transporting
Nomenclature for Mfs1 follows species-specific conventions, and the same symbol can refer to different, non-orthologous genes
