Mezersíteni

Mezersíteni is a term used to describe a specific type of traditional Hungarian textile embroidery. Originating from the region of Mezősé, a historical and ethnographic area in Transylvania, Romania, this embroidery style is characterized by its distinctive motifs and color palettes. The term itself is derived from the name of the region.

The embroidery typically features geometric patterns, often incorporating stylized floral and zoomorphic elements. Common motifs include stars, rosettes, and representations of animals like birds or deer, all rendered in a simplified, abstract manner. The color palette is usually vibrant, with a preference for strong contrasts. Red, blue, green, and yellow are frequently used, often against a white or off-white linen background. The stitches employed are typically satin stitch, chain stitch, and various forms of couching.
