Mevlevis

Mevlevis, also known as the Mevlevi Order or the Order of the Whirling Dervishes, is a Sufi order that originated in Anatolia during the 13th century. The order is named after Mevlana Jalal al-Din Rumi, a 13th-century Persian poet and Sufi mystic whose teachings and poetry have had a profound influence on the order. Mevlevis are known for their distinctive practices, including the Sema ceremony, where they perform a whirling dance in a state of ecstasy, believed to be a means of connecting with the divine.

The Mevlevi Order is characterized by its emphasis on spiritual discipline, communal living, and the pursuit of spiritual enlightenment.
